CORA Town Hall (16 October 4pm Pacific): OC6 Seat Roles

Welcome to CORA’s Town Hall Fall/Winter 2021-22 Series. This first virtual town hall of the colder months ahead (#7 in the 2021 series) will focus discussion and experience on the tactics, techniques and mental “game” required for each (and every) critical seat in a crew boat outrigger.

CORA’s facilitators will guide discussion among guest speakers with experience in each seat, from 1 through 6, as they determine, in front of the audience, how they have worked in their seats in past races, and how they would work together in a race as a first-ever combined group of paddlers. They will, in effect, figure out how to race effectively as a throw-together team.

The audience will be encouraged to ask questions along the way. Please join us for this fun, first-of-the-season Town Hall discussions!

Zoom forum date: Saturday 16 October at 4pm Pacific

Wetdashe 2021 (November 13 / 14) registration NOW OPEN

Wetdashe registration is NOW OPEN. FGPC’s 10th anniversary November fundraising race for men’s health is back. “Dry change” dockside changes comprised of 9pp, 12pp and as high as 18 paddler crews can select 12km, 24km and 46km race options.

All boats (both spec and ultralight) are supplied by FGPC. Pledge-drive donations to the BC Cancer Foundation can “add speed” to participating teams, shaving 1-second increments off of podium race times for every $10 donated in support of men’s health. Raffle prizes, auction items and awards round out an exciting and spectator-friendly weekend of racing. High-vis commemorative tech race shirts (size and gender selections available through pre-order) are included in race fees.

CORA statement on COVID vaccine adherence

A statement by CORA’s board of directors in response to the availability of COVID-19 vaccines and the mitigation of COVID-19 exposure risks during outrigger group or crew activities:

  1. CORA supports the recommendations of the Public Health Agency of Canada regarding the health benefits of vaccination in preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19 and its variants.
  2. CORA supports the full vaccination of those recommended to get the vaccine by federal, provincial and territorial public health authorities.
  3. As paddlers gather and train together in physically close environments, Member Clubs have a duty to protect their members and enhance the safety of their training environment.  As a result, CORA supports full vaccination of those participating in outrigger group or crew activities for the safety of their members and to mitigate the risk of future infection events at Member Clubs and in our communities at large.
  4. In order to achieve the above, the CORA board strongly encourages Member Clubs to consider amending their COVID-19 policies to require full vaccination of those participating in outrigger group or crew activities, accounting for demographics, location and relevant specific vulnerabilities with respect to COVID-19.  CORA also recommends the continued implementation of longstanding risk mitigation measures such as physical distancing and the use of masks where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  5. Member Clubs continue to be bound by the Orders of applicable provincial and territorial public health authorities in respect of all gatherings, events and activities.
