Canadian Sprint Nationals registration to OPEN on Friday 6 March

Canadian 2026 Outrigger National Sprint Championships – REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

MARCH 19, 2026 UPDATE – With the confirmation of additional Bradleys available, we have added slots and offered slots to Canadian OC6 crews on the waitlist. Crews on the waitlist should have received a time sensitive e-mail with a registration link. We will continue to move crews from the waitlists to racing slots as we adjust allocations to demand. If you intend to race, please get on the waitlists.
We are still working out V1 arrangements and have not made offers to the V1 waitlists as yet.

This is your opportunity to register yourself and/or your OC6 team for the Canadian 2026 Outrigger National Sprints Championships. This national racing event will take place on Burnaby Lake at the Burnaby Lake Pavilion in Burnaby, BC on Saturday and Sunday 9-10 May 2026. Crew and solo entries are available in limited numbers, on a first-come-first-served basis. Initial entry allocations are as follows:

OC6: 12 women’s (4 junior; 8 adult), 12 men’s (4 junior, 8 adult) and 16 mixed (4 junior, 12 adult) crew entries will compete in OC6 500M races across 4 lanes. Registrations exceeding these limits will be waitlisted.

V1: 24 solo men (4 junior, 20 adult) and 24 solo women (4 junior; 20 adult) V1 athletes will also compete on the same 500M race course across 4 lanes. Registrations exceeding these limits will be waitlisted.

Subject to race grid logistics, unused entry allocations in specific divisions will be reallocated to waitlisted racers and crews in or about mid-April.

Due to the limited number of entry slots, international crews will be placed on a separate waitlist and allocated empty slots if available in or about mid-April.

Crew races will take place in CORA-club-supplied Bradley OC6s; solo athletes will race in CORA-supplied V1s. All registered crew and solo athletes will have the opportunity to race 500M 3 times, from qualifying heats through semi-finals and finals. The race grid will accommodate as many 1000M heats as may be practicable within the time available. Not all crews may have the opportunity to race 1000M, which may be restricted to the fastest women’s, men’s and mixed crews. Age divisions may be consolidated for heats and prizing based on registrations received.

  1. Thank you. This is exciting, but it is creating a lot of stress because there are so few spots. People are changing their plans to monitor the website and email for registration going live. Could we find out what time registration opens? Also, if registration fills up today, would it be possible to put all teams and individuals that try to register today into a lottery to pick who gets to participate, so it isn’t just a mad race to register?

  2. I am disappointed that CORA is not supporting the Singapore crews – there should have been places reserved for those crews going to Singapore. This race is the only sprint race in Canada before August.

  3. The link has been open for 5 minutes and the women’s spots are SOLD OUT -what are your thoughts on this process ?

  4. when was it even announced that registration was opening?? i had to hear about it through someone, and super disappointed that women’s division sold out! My Singapore crew members from the East had already planned to come out.

  5. Very disappointing that so many teams committed to representing Canada in Singapore are not going to get to race with their crews. Sold out by 10.30 am PST yet I received a CORA email at 11.30 am with all the registration details ?

  6. A word of advice: get your waiting list forms filled out asap so your positions on the waitlist are timestamped. In the event more spaces are made available you will be contacted based on your waitlist timestamp.

    1. Hi Erik,
The registration opened at 10:21am and was sold out in less than 10 minutes for the women. Your note on this website was sent out 1 1/2 hours later – an email would have been a better choice of communication, then it would have reached everyone. Is CORA aware that many of the Singapore crews representing outrigger and CORA for Canada were unable to obtain a spot for the only sprint competition in Western Canada. As we all know, travel to the US is not an option for most people. I would also like an accounting/ justification for the very high race fees.
      Thank you,

      1. Linda, an email invitation was sent to all CORA members with links to register: the email reached everyone (unless it was spammed by their systems) at approximately 10:20am. If you want to your team to be in the queue for any additional spots that open up, make sure you’re placed on the waiting list.

  7. Very disappointed in CORA for not supporting the Team Canada IVF crews wanting a sprint race to practice. As Linda noted, it sold out minutes after opening in the Womens V6 category and so my Womens 60s IVF crew can’t race. We will now need find a race in the US as a practice race?

Can women’s crews race in the Mixed category?

    1. I echo your disappointment Cathy. The combination of limited notice of registration and limited spots available, creates a very frustrating situation, especially for those who have already made travel plans and booked accommodations thinking they would be racing. Very unfortunate.
